Yoga means 'Union'. union of individual with universal. At the body level the asanas give good exercise and keep you healthy. Meditation keeps mind healthy. Contemplation keeps intellect healthy. Yoga is a complete practical approach for holistic improvement. «less

Historically, the yoga sutras and consolidation of yogic practices came after the time in which vedas came about (2000-1000 BC). The yogic texts are part of the upanishads/vedanta. Philosophy of yoga differs from the vedic tenets of sacrifice and worship of the vedic Gods. Lord Shiva is said to be the pioneer of hatha yoga. He isn't mentioned in the vedas, except as Rudra, a minor God in the vedic times. Yoga is more individualistic and talks about reaching the state of bliss through rigorous self-discipline (yamas and niyamas), asanas, pranayama and different stages of meditation. There are lots of instances in the shiva purana and other literature where this wasn't always well-received by those who strictly abided by vedas.Later, Bhagavad Gita consolidates both the vedic and yogic idealogies and offers them as options for people with different tendencies. «less

Then the changes occur and see the difference. I teach meditation taking good from all. Hinduism Islam Christianity Buddhism kabbalah. So keep open mind never connect any art music yoga etc to religion.

Understand the student capabilities, inabilities. Also Yoga teachers must have patience, communication skills, polite, try to find out if students have any injury and teach them asana accordingly, discipline, and able motivate there students to do well in there own capacity. In Yoga practice Teachers must not promote any type of challenges or competitions between there students of group classes, specially beginners students, it might give negative or injury results, because every individual is different and everyone have there own body anatomical construction, so there are proofs that some individuals can do some asana very easily but others cant do that asnana easily and visa-verse. «less

Is there any difference between a yoga teacher and a yoga guru?

0 0 4

Show previous answers

Harshad J replied | 16/03/2016

If you go language wise in English called teacher. In Sanskrit called guru.
Now if a person just teaches and not practice then there is no result. But a guru himself sets example before then there is lot of difference.

0 0
K

Keval replied | 05/07/2016

Yes the difference is very vast. There can be many yoga teachers available. But there are very few yoga guru. Guru has the capability to control the energy of the student or his disciple with his yogic energies.... Whereas a yoga teacher can only guide and teach. But controlling the students energy takes years of practice and severe devotion to yog.
