x/x is not always 1.

It equals 1 only when $x$x is not zero.
If $x$x is zero, then you’re trying to divide zero by zero — and math doesn’t allow that. It has no meaning.

So basically:

• Any number divided by itself = 1

• Except zero, because zero can’t be divided at all
