Yes there are if you do not follow your teachers instructions or you try to copy somebody. If you do not have the flexibility and try to push yourself beyond your capacity you will definitely injured yourself. So be safe and be sensible.

There is a way to do each pose of asana, so one must start to learn under the instructors guidance, it is very important to follow the step by step of getting into each asana and reach the final position of that asana and after staying there for some time in final position than it is equally important to come out of the asana step by step slowly, so that there will be no injury. Always follow your instructors advise specially beginners. read less

Well ....the chances of injury cannot be ruled out completely while practising yoga as any physical movement might have. However if practised with awareness ,according to ones body ability and flexibility and under guidance of experienced teacher the chances of injury should be almost nil.
