I am a professional musician and educator striving to continue making a difference in music and education. Learning and being associated with music can go a long way in helping people become productive, responsible and considerate citizens of the world. I feel privileged to be able to contribute to one’s learning and aspire to practise this on a larger scale. I hold a Master’s degree in Music Performance (Vocals) from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, London. I had modules on Pedagogy, Vocal Studies, Ensemble Studies and Music Production. As part of my degree, I also participated in a mentorship programme where I trained Bachelor’s level students on their vocal skills. I have previously completed technical courses in Music Theory and Music Production. I am a highly trained vocalist with over 15 years of experience in performing, songwriting and recording. Furthermore, I am also a skilled bass guitarist and pianist. In my latest role, I was a Western vocals teacher for Kingston Music Service (KMS) in London. I worked with students of all ages, with very different musical tastes and aspirations. It was a mix of individual lessons, along with some group and whole class sessions. From 2016 to 2021, I was a part-time faculty member of Aatmalaya Academy of Art and Culture. I conducted group lessons in vocals and mrudangam. I also delivered music workshops in two villages in the state of Karnataka. Over the years, I have selectively worked with private students. The levels of these students range from beginner to professional, and from primary school students to retired individuals.

My teaching approach is practical-oriented and follows the Gurukul system, which emphasises learning by doing. I am the director of Swaralaya Pratishta, a training centre in Bangalore, where I teach music to students using the Gurukul system. At the centre, I also provide certification courses for those wanting to pursue music professionally. Apart from teaching, I also have a YouTube channel called Satish Kolli Harmonium, where I share my knowledge of music and provide guidance to learners who want to improve their skills. In my teaching, I use the Gandharva Vidyalaya syllabus and reference books, which have helped my students better understand music.

Students can expect to be exposed to a range of preparatory techniques for learning musical skills, including meditation, breathing, and voice culture. The approach is first principles based and emphasis is laid on the acquisition of perfect knowledge of the notes which are then used to build the phrases of Raga music. I have trained as vocalist in the Guru-Disciple tradition of Hindustani classical music. I have taught performed, and researched singing, and published in academic journal (Problems of Music Pedagogy, 2019). I have been adjunct faculty at Azim Premji University, Bangalore (Understanding the World Through Music), National School of Drama, Bangalore chapter (Voice and Speech), and an adviser at the Centre for Public Understanding of Science, Bangalore, India. As cofounder at Osage, I have engaged in directing theatrical productions with children and young adults and actively promoting Osage on Music, a channel on YouTube.
