🔹 Ionisation Potential (Ionisation Energy)
Definition: The energy required to remove an electron from an isolated gaseous atom.
Process:
Atom → Cation + electron
Nature: Always positive (energy is absorbed).
Example:
Na → Na⁺ + e⁻ (energy is needed)
👉 It tells how strongly an atom holds its electrons.
🔹 Electron Affinity
Definition: The energy change when an electron is added to an isolated gaseous atom.
Process:
Atom + electron → Anion
Nature: Usually negative (energy is released), but can be positive for some elements.
Example:
Cl + e⁻ → Cl⁻ (energy is released)
👉 It tells how much an atom wants to gain an electron.
🔁 Key Differences
Feature
Ionisation Potential
Electron Affinity
Meaning
Removal of electron
Addition of electron
Energy change
Energy absorbed
Energy released (mostly)
Sign
Positive
Negative (generally)
Forms
Cation
Anion
Indicates
Tendency to lose electron
Tendency to gain electron
🎯 Easy Way to Remember
Ionisation Potential = “Pulling electron out” (needs energy)
Electron Affinity = “Pulling electron in” (releases energy)

Energy required to remove an electron from a neutral atom (in gaseous state) is called ionisation potential.
Meaning: Higher IP → atom holds electrons tightly.
Energy change when an atom gains an electron (forms an anion) is called electron affinity
Meaning:Higher (more negative) EA → atom strongly attracts electrons.

you should listen to your body to do yoga, how you are feeling while doing yoga , are you getting tired? or not. i would prefer you to do yoga in morning only but you can do pranayam twice a day for good montel health.
