Ask your teacher. Take support and never never ovetdo against your capacity. Remember to success in yoga you require is Practice, Patience, Perseverance,and sweet pain. Sweet pain is where you feel the pain only during the asab because you have not practice before, or your body is not flexible, or you have just recovered from sickness or injury. Always I form your teacher if you underwent any sickness or surgery. Or natural disability. read less

1) Check your medical history against the contraindications for a given asana. If you have glucoma, high blood pressure or if you are pregnant, many asanas are not advised for you or they require a variation suitable to you. 2) Differentiate between good pain and bad pain. Some pain, especially in the beginning stages is good. But if it lasts for more than a day or two, your posture might not be right. 3) Make sure it has been at least 3 hours - 4 for slow metabolic rate, since you ate your last meal. 4) Some asanas are better practised in a sequence, after adequate warm up. 5) Don't try inversions without guidance. At least make sure some one is close to help you if need be. 6) Don't rush into it. Flexibility takes time. If you over do it, you might injure your skeletal system in the quest of opening up your joints. 7) Stay calm, breathe in poses and listen to your body read less

It's recommended to do the yoga with emty stomach. Starting with low intensity workout is always better. If having some backaches and knee pains then pl. Avoid some ex. It's always better to start with the trainer.
