Importance of Prana and Pranayama

Ved Prakash

Prana= vital force and livingness

As per yogic point of view, the entire cosmos is alive and throbbing with Prana. All beings, whether living or nonliving, exist due to Prana.

When Prana moves, Chitta (Consciousnesses) moves. When Prana is without movement, Chitta is without movement. Both Prana and Chitta/Consciousness must be present for life to exist.

Prana is a dynamic principle within everything.  Everyone is born with a specific quantum of Prana, but the Quality and Quantity change continuously as one goes through life.

In human beings, the 5 PRANAS are responsible for creation and existence at the individual level.  They are created during the first four months. During the 1st and 2nd month, the fetus lives on the Prana of the mother. By the 3rd month, the foetus has its battery installed.
