Modern yoga is part of classical Yog. As your question also make a significant difference in words Yog and Yoga, Classical Yog is a path of liberation/ Salvation. But if one wants the same result from modern yoga, one must to adopt the ancient approach of Yog and gradually attain the same effect on later stages. Moreover, Modern Yoga is the way to achieve the same results after fully surrender on the path of Yog.

Classical/ancient yoga is to connect yourself with God and get liberated by evolving your consciousness to higher levels.
Modern yoga is just some gymnastics to boost your vitality and become more aggressive and Competetive.
Actually, without following the eight stages of yoga ladders, yoga has no meaning as it is done in modern yoga.
In my view, modern Yoga is about competing with the other and showing your skill, saying this is yoga, which not correct. Please realise this is a temporary world where your living.
