I have been playing guitar since 8 years. About teaching, it takes only five months to learn the basic guitar and techniques, which will be enough to play on stage and move the audience.I have my own modules and way of teaching . Give more importance to the roots rather than the tunes that drive listeners. Again its not about me teaching its all about how much time or effort the beginner is trying to get into it.
