OM is considered the very name of the Absolute—a sound beyond translation. Across ancient traditions and modern scientific research, OM has been shown to reduce psychological stress, calm the nervous system, and quieten worldly concerns. It is much more than a sound; it is an experience.

The syllable OM (AUM) first appears in the Vedas and is revered as Praṇava—the primordial sound. Among all mantras, OM is regarded as the most sacred and foundational.

According to yogic philosophy:

  • AUM is the creative vibration from which the universe arose.

  • It is the link between matter and spirit.

  • It represents infinity, eternity, and immortality.

  • All sounds and all objects arise from this single cosmic vibration.

Meditation on OM allows the practitioner to trace this vibration inward, moving from the physical sound to the subtle inner resonance. Ultimately, the yogi experiences the Spirit-essence behind all creation.
