The cell cycle has two main phases: Interphase and M phase.
Interphase is the phase where the cell grows and prepares for division. It has 3 parts:
G₁ phase: The cell grows and makes proteins.
S phase: The cell copies its DNA.
G₂ phase: The cell checks the DNA and prepares for division.
After this, the cell enters the M phase, where it divides. M phase includes Mitosis and Cytokinesis.
Mitosis has 4 stages:
Prophase: Chromosomes become visible and the nucleus starts to break.
Metaphase: Chromosomes line up in the center of the cell.
Anaphase: Chromosomes are pulled to opposite sides.
Telophase: Two new nuclei form in the cell.
After mitosis, Cytokinesis happens, and the cell splits into two new cells.
