Question which is common, but answers are different. I give my view on this question hope it helps you. If your hitting Gym for the first time in your life, my best advice is to go regular for a week and take off for two days. Later make it alternate day work out for 2 weeks that keep reducing non work out days.. but you make sure you have one day rest to your body in a week. Understand your body how is reacting and than plan your work outs. More than work out, diet and rest is more important read less

It depends completely on you and on what you want to achieve..... If you are working out hard.... Work hard on alternate days and keep the running and cardio for the rest of the days

Usually the protocol used is a muscle group isolation split, which often calls for 4 to 5 workouts per week. My favourite split is Day 1 -- Back, Day 2 -- Chest, Day 3 -- Legs, Day 4 -- Shoulders, Day 5 (optional) -- arms. When training for strength, remember to focus on the big 3 movements.

Alternative day in week is important who does not have time.Secondly,he can get rest. One can workout 4 days in a week if he is comfortable. Secondly,it is all about One's requirement and his fitness.
