Dancers move in a line, breaking on the first beat of the music. New York style salsa Also known as "on2", this style is similar to LA style salsa, but dancers break on the second beat of the music. Cuban style salsa Also known as "Casino" or "Rueda de Casino", this style originated in Cuba and is characterized by circular movements, intricate footwork, and a lively spirit. Salsa Rueda A group style of salsa where couples dance in a circle, led by a caller who signals moves for the entire group to perform simultaneously. Puerto Rican style salsa Also known as "Salsa Porto", this style is influenced by other dances in the United States. Salsa dancing can also be categorized as either linear or circular. In linear salsa, dancers stay in a line, while in circular salsa, dancers circle around each other.
