Just as an adjective tells us something about the noun, an adverb tells us something more about a verb. It tells us how/where/when the action is done. An adverb adds more meaning to a verb.

Examples: The man talked loudly. (talked about how - loudly)

I met her yesterday. ( met when - yesterday).

They went out. ( went where - out)

Kind of Adverbs:

1. Adverb of manner: the adverb which tells us ' how an action is done' is called " Adverb of Manner". We always as the question ' how' to the verb.

Example: I know him well. ( how do I know him)

The girl spoke slowly. (How did she speak)

2. Adverb of time: The adverb which tells us "when an action is done" is called ' Adverb of time'. We always ask the question 'when' to the verb.

Example: I met him yesterday. ( 'when' did I meet him)
She will reach soon. ( 'when' will she reach.)

3. Adverb of place: The adverb which tells us - where an action is done is called Adverb of place.

We always ask the question ' where' to the verb.

Example: As it was raining, we went inside.

               She ran upstairs.
