There are many idioms, phrases and quotes on shoes. "It isn't the mountain ahead that wears you out; it's the grain of sand in your shoe" "A woman carries her clothes. But the shoe carries the woman" Can You Share an interesting shoe-incident in your life or an idiom or a phrase? A shoe anecdote: I had to trek bare-footed to my school till my school final. Three kilometers from my house to a Railway station, then travel by train, and finally from there to school by walk along the railway track. Once my neighbour's son of my age bought a pair of new branded shoes. It didn't fit him, the shoe that fits one person pinches another. One fine morning his mother told me to try it out and it neither pinched or bit me. I was very happy to get into my neighbour's shoes. She told me that she would take her son's permission and offer it to me. The permission was granted and the message was passed on to my mother. I used to visit her house daily thinking that she would tell me to take it. To my bad luck she forgot the mega offer to me. My ego didn't permit me to ask her. Crying baby gets the milk. I didn’t cry, It went on for one year. The shoe gathered dust and finally disappeared, might be to a dust-bin. I bought variety of imported shoes once I started earning. But that Longing of my neighbour's shoes, which fitted me without any pinch, still PINCHES me. No state of the art shoes would replace that longing.

Hi Singaravelu. Id like you to understand that an Idiom's figurative meaning is different from its literal meaning. In the idioms mentioned above their figurative meaning is rather different from the literal understanding. For e.g - "It isnt the mountain ahead that wears you out,its the grain of sand in your shoe" is about human attitude. We can endure some incredible hardships without a peep but will get upset over something small in comparison! With regards to the second idiom about 'A woman carries her clothes but the shoes carries the woman' is actually a quote made by a famous designer. It trends towards fashion and how an attire is not complete without the right shoes and as the fashion industry believe that the most important item in your dressing , is the shoe! Hope this helps you. Perhaps you would like to right about an incident on the figurative meaning of the quotes and not the literal meaning as that is what idioms intend to do! When I heard alarm ringing from my Ultraman digital watch, I briskly kept all my books in my ''easy-bag''. Once finished packing, I rushed out from the tuition room, and then house, and finally, I was outside the house. I pushed back my ''easy-bag'' handle and sit on my bag waiting for my car. I was so angry because my car had not arrived yet. I was rushing home to continue to play computer game as Friday was the only day I can play computer. After I waited for 5 minutes, eventually I saw 'my' car turning into the road where I was and stopped in front of me. I opened the back door immediately and went in the car. Then, I closed the car and then, the car started to move. On the way, I was taking a nap so that I can play longer later in the night. But I can feel the car turning here and there. I had the feeling of the car was not going back to my home which was actually located near to the tuition place. However, I was too lazy to open my eyes and I actually thought that the driver was bringing me to have supper at the downtown. I had the thought because having supper is one of my customs in my family. Ten minutes later, the car engine was off and I opened my eyes slowly. To my surprise, I was in an unknown place, a house which I never came before. I quickly raised my head to the front and wanted to have a look at the driver. I was so surprised that it was neither my parents nor siblings. The driver had a great shock too when he saw me. And only now, both of us realized that we were wrong. The father thought I were his son while I thought the driver was one of my family members. read less

Let me tell you the story of shoes. I wonder what people did before the invention of shoes. It must have been very hard. What started as a practical venture has turned out to be a fascinating industry. It is a booming industry. It is now a fine blend of art and functionality. Though all shoes share basic characteristics, their coloring, materials, and designs have transformed drastically over thousands of years in the fascinating history of footwear. Experts believe shoes were invented around the Middle Paleolithic period approximately 40,000 years ago. However, it wasn’t until the Upper Paleolithic period that footwear was consistently worn by populations. The earliest shoe prototypes were soft, made from wraparound leather, and resembled either sandals or moccasins. In the early 1800’s, women’s and men’s shoes finally began to differ from one another in style, color, heel, and toe shape. Cloth-topped shoes made an appearance during this era, and boots grew exceedingly popular. After much fluctuation, the standard for a man’s heel finally settled at 1 inch. Up until 1850, shoes were made straight, meaning that there was no differentiation from left and right shoes. As the twentieth century approached, shoemakers improved comfort by making foot-specific shoes. In today's shoe making comfort and looks are the priorities and you have hundred of options to choose from. The evolution is however phenomenal. read less
