Yoga is a journey to reaching to Samadhi the ultimate bliss. 

In this entire journey meditation is one limb to reach to the ultimate destination.

Meditation means doing noting and staying with oneself. It is a effortless complete relaxation process.

Meditation has 3 major principle - 

I do nothing for now.

I want nothing for now.

I am nothing for now.

Yoga, pranayama & meditation plays a huge role here. As it can give you physical, mental and spiritual development. If kids can adopt this life style in their early age they can lead a disease free more focused lifestyle.

If you practiced under a qualifed Guru there is no side effects. It is important to know which is suitable for you and which is not. Some people may feel some mussle strain in the beginning of their yoga practice but with time it will go off.

Definately Yoga. Gym is limited to physical exercise but yoga is not just few poses. Yoga helps to develop physical, mental and spiritual balace. It is a lifestyle.
