I have learnt Mohiniyattam under Smt Gopika Varma and under Padmasri Kalamandalam Kshemavathy. I have also been pursuing Kathak for three years. I have written articles and edited a book on Dance in India, titled, 'Scripting Dance in Contemporary India' and have a strong grounding in the theory and philosophy of dance as well. I earned my PhD in Dance and Semiotics from IIT Bombay. I have started an institute, SADHAKA, in Banjara Hills Hyderabad, chiefly to promote the beautiful and graceful dance of Mohiniyattam. My goal is to groom and present a group of Mohinis in Hyderabad, who can practice and perform the dance. I encourage all, especially girls and women of all ages, who have an interest in Indian dance, to try Mohiniyattam, one of the most feminine, graceful and expressive dances. It is not just a physical activity, but a complete, holistic discipline, which has the potential to transform you into a beautiful being over time.
