Practice the chord shape first, once you get it right, practice switching the chords with common finger techniques. Once you are good at it practice whole thing with metronome.

First of all learning chords is a vast theory. There are several type of chords. Open chords, barr chords, power chords etc. For begining you can start with open chords like G, Am, Em, D. First of all learning chords is a vast theory. There are several type of chords. Open chords, barr chords, power chords etc. For begining you can start with open chords like G, Am, Em, D. They are easier. However to actually play songs or compose your own songs, you need a deep understanding or major scales because chords are created from scales. If you understand the scale, you can easily create chords on your own. So my advice, learn open chords first. Then learn scales theory and then learn how to construct chords and that will make your musical journey smooth.. All the best! read less

Next part is to practice how to change chords without missing a beat. For example give first 4 beats to C major. Next 4 Beats to G Major. Then Try to change.... 1st beat for C Major 2nd Beat for G Major 3rd Beat for C Major again and 4th for G major. Make many combinations you own. Ex: C & G, C & F, F and G etc. Always remember to practice at a slow tempo in the beginning and increase speed as you get comfortable at a certain tempo. Next step would be to learn simple songs like Let it be by Beatles or Country roads by John Denver. Invest in a decent Chord Book. It will be an asset. Hard book works better than just learning from net. You can take it and refer when you need to learn a new chord or a known chord in different positions. Have fun.... Francis read less

Pratik, Learning chords is not a very tedious task. You would sooner or later be able to play them just fine. However, I suggest you to read the scales first (Like a major octave for Cmajor would go like: C....D....E....F....G....A....B....C SA.RE.GA.MA.PA.DHA.NI.SA If you take take out 1st, 4th...

However, I suggest you to read the scales first (Like a major octave for Cmajor would go like: C....D....E....F....G....A....B....C SA.RE.GA.MA.PA.DHA.NI.SA If you take take out 1st, 4th and 5th; it will give you the family of chord C; that would be C:F:G So any song that would start in the key of C, will also use F and G (moreover, it might use their minor counterparts Am,Dm,Em respectively) This is how you learn to find out chords for any song. I hope you start understanding music and then start playing chords on your own. Its always better to learn the concept first. Yeah Mr. Pratik, it depends on your interest whether you want to learn chords or you want to learn music. There is a hell lot of difference between the two. As a musician I will never suggest my students to start learning chords....instead I would compell them to learn western classical music...the notes in there and the roles of these notes.Once you understand the notes of western classical music, you will ultimately come to know to form the root chords and their relative family chords. Otherwise ....it is easy to hold a finger patter on the fretboard and play as many chords you like.... but that is not the right way.. read less
