Most good Canadian universities require GRE for masters course.

Yes. Though it is not compulsory but preferably better for a student to clear it. Often it is considered an alternative to GMAT by many uni in Canada. So the answer is YES

Many B-Schools have started accepting the GRE scores. And the GRE new format (after August 2011) tests you on several measures which were found only in GMAT. One thing is, the Critical Reasoning Section. Now in the GRE, you will have questions involving critical reasoning, though these are not as difficult as those found in the GMAT. Also there is more verbal reasoning and less of vocabulary in the new format GRE, which is another measure tested in the GMAT.
