ballet is characterized by strict, precise technique with emphasis on elegant lines and traditional form, modern dance is more fluid and expressive with a focus on personal interpretation and improvisation, and jazz dance incorporates strong rhythmic elements, often drawing from everyday movements with a strong connection to the music and its syncopated rhythms. Key differences: Technique: Ballet prioritizes strict alignment and turned-out legs, while modern dance emphasizes body isolations and contractions, and jazz incorporates elements of both with a focus on flexibility and sharp, percussive movements. Movement Quality: Ballet tends to be graceful and controlled, modern dance is often more dynamic and expressive, and jazz is energetic and playful with sharp accents and isolations. Choreography: Ballet often follows a narrative structure with intricate steps, modern dance allows for more improvisation and personal expression, and jazz choreography heavily emphasizes rhythmic patterns and musicality. Music: Ballet typically uses classical music, modern dance can incorporate a wider range of music styles, and jazz often uses music with strong rhythms and syncopation. read less
