The force of friction (F^) is the opposing force that comes into play when a body is at rest, tends to move or it is moving over the surface of another body. The force of friction (F^) increases with increase the applied force (F) till it is near the maximum value called limiting value of friction. The force of friction up to the maximum value is static friction because the body remains at the rest position till then with further increase in the applied force causes the frictional force decreases to become constant:. This value of frictional force is called dynamic friction or kinetic friction. Thus force of friction adjusts itself with applied force. read less

If you change the direction of the object, friction automatically changes its direction in the opposite direction to that of the object. You just have to change and control the motion of the object over any surface and friction will adjust itself in the opposite direction.
