Mass is a measure of the amount of matter in an object. The property of matter that measures its resistance to acceleration. Roughly, the mass of an object is a measure of the number of atoms in it.

The force of friction up to the maximum value is static friction because the body remains at the rest position till then with further increase in the applied force causes the frictional force decreases to become constant:. This value of frictional force is called dynamic friction or kinetic friction. Thus force of friction adjusts itself with applied force.
