your 1st activity in a day should be Newspaper (Hindu/Indian Express) Ncerts should be completed with dedication,never neglect those as just school books because it is where your whole preparation depends. never jump for standard books without completing ncerts

First start with ncert for basics complete all NCERT within 2 months and then start with standard books.. complete your prelims and mains syllabus.. don't study prelims and mains separately it will take lot of time. When you read syllabus within your command is mandatory.When you study or what ever your resources focus should be on mains level,that is what ever topics you cover you must be able to write 150 -200 words answer. News paper reading is the 'Base'. When you read syllabus within your command is mandatory.When you study or what ever your resources focus should be on mains level,that is what ever topics you cover you must be able to write 150 -200 words answer. Market is for buyers and researchers .UPSC aspirant should focus on minimal books unless he could not stop his impulsive tendency to buy. Basic textbooks and question papers ' analysis is better. Then chose books of reputed Authors or material from Internet. What should be reading is for understanding of student than relying reputed Authors. Focus should be on news paper and previous year question paper. And formulate opinion for the matters,for that unbiased attitude and informative analysis is mandatory. Here helps magazines. Overall a holistic approach with practical thinking towards preparation is satisfactory. read less

Many options if you wish for a govt job. Also try for other exams conducted by UPSC such as CAPF, ICAR etc. Try for CGL by SSC and thirdly many vacancies are in banking and insurance sector through IBPS and other organisations
