Must have if you are interested in teaching/lectureship. You are exempt from entrance tests for your PhD admissions and hence need to only attend the PhD interviews.

Conceptual knowledge is imp than marks

You can work as Assistant professor , you can do Research (PHD) , it sometimes becomes eligibility criteria for few exams such as degree lecturers.
