The test is conducted for determining the eligibility for college and university level lectureship and for awarding the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) to Indian nationals for pursuing their Ph.D or research. Both these tests are held two times a year, mostly in June and December. But there are many candidates who are confused between UGC-CBSE NET and CSIR-UGC NET. Although the purpose of conducting both these exams is the same, there is a difference in the subjects involved. CSIR and UGC are two different governmental departments and both conduct their respective NETentrance exam. National Eligibilty test, is a post graduate entrance exam which is required either for teaching qualification of Undergraduates & post graduates or for joining as a PhD student in recognized institutes. It has two grades of qualification LS (Lecturership) and JRF (Junior Research fellow).
