UGC NET Exam Pattern 2019

UGC NET Exam Pattern

9. UGC NET Exam Pattern

UGC NET is conducted to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for prestigious positions like JRF and Assistant Professor, in Indian universities and colleges. Until recently, the CBSE conducted UGC NET in 84 subjects at 91 selected cities across the country. However, after the declaration of Prakash Javadekar, Union Education Minister- Govt. of India, the UGC NET was announced to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) from December 2018 onwards.

This particular exam has gone through many changes, recently. Until 2017, UGC NET exam was conducted in three sessions wherein candidates had to appear for three different papers i.e, Paper I, Paper II and Paper III. However, in 2018, the UGC NET exam pattern was changed by the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education). The total number of papers then reduced to two (paper-I and II), because paper II and III got merged. Henceforth, all candidates are required to attend only two papers.

Mode of Exam- UGC NET is a computer-based online exam where every candidate is given an individual desktop with a preinstalled software, specially created for this examination.

Type of Questions in UGC NET:

  • Both the papers have objective type questions

  • All the questions in the UGC NET exam will have 4 choices.

  • Candidates must select only 1 answer as most appropriate.

  • The duration of Paper 1 is 60 minutes (1 hour) and Paper 2 is 120 minutes (2 hours).

  • Exam timings for candidates in Shift 1 are from 9.30 am – 12.30 pm and for candidates in Shift 2, from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

  • Paper 1 has 50 questions and Paper 2 has 100 questions.

  • Although all the questions are important, students can navigate from one section to another without any restrictions.

UGC NET Marking Scheme:

  • UGC follows a uniform marking system for both the papers.

  • There is no negative marking for any unanswered or incorrect answer.

  • Since there is no negative marking, a candidate can attempt all the questions by giving a calculated answer.
