In fact, your examples don't seem to be onomatopoeic at all. Perhaps what you are asking is if there is something intrinsic to the sound of words in a synonym pair. That is a "phonetic" aspect, as opposed to "onomatopoeic." Onomatopoeia are words that derive from the sound of the thing they are describing, not how they are pronounced. Regardless, it's an interesting concept, but there is a fallacy that speakers would find certain sounds harsher or softer than others. when in fact, you are simply building on an assumption based on your personal response to English specifically. read less
