Coriolis force is the force on the moving fluids (air and water) due to rotation of the earth. In turn, the wind is bent towards the right in the northen hemisphere and towards left in the southern hemisphere. It is highest near poles and lowest at the equator. Effect of Coriolis force on the world climate: Firstly, as in the northern hemisphere, the winds are bent towards right due to Coriolis force, while in the southern hemisphere they are bent towards left,Corioliss forceinfluences the pattern of pressure belts which affect the world climate. For example, the monsoon winds in India are actually the winds which are bent towards the right(towards Indian subcontinent) after passing the equator. Secondly, the jet streams (very high-speed winds that travel in the upper atmosphere) are caused partly due to Corliss force. Thirdly, the Cyclones get their whirling motion because of bending of winds by Corioliss force. Note: Coriolisforce acts only on the moving air (i.e. wind) not on air at rest, as its very expression contains the term "v" (velocity of the wind). Higher the velocity of the wind, higher will be the Corioliss force. read less
