š Cell Cycle has two main phases:
Interphase is like the preparation time before a cell divides. It has 3 stages:
š¢ Gā phase (Gap 1):
The cell grows in size
Makes proteins and energy
Prepares for DNA copying
š” S phase (Synthesis):
DNA is copied (replicated) ⤠So now the cell has double the DNA
šµ Gā phase (Gap 2):
Cell gets ready for division
Makes more proteins
Checks for any DNA mistakes
This is where the actual division happens. It has 2 parts:
Mitosis (nucleus divides)
Cytokinesis (cytoplasm divides)
𧬠Mitosis has 4 main stages:
1ļøā£ Prophase:
DNA condenses into visible chromosomes
Spindle fibers start forming
Nuclear membrane breaks down
2ļøā£ Metaphase:
Chromosomes line up in the center of the cell
3ļøā£ Anaphase:
Sister chromatids are pulled apart to opposite sides
4ļøā£ Telophase:
New nuclear membranes form
Chromosomes uncoil
The cell is nearly ready to split
āļø Cytokinesis:
The cell splits into two new cells (daughter cells)
Each has the same DNA
