Biochemistry Researcher: I am a Biochemist by academic research experience. I carried out projects related to assay development in clinical biochemistry (M.Sc. Project), cell culture experiments including high quality RNA preparation from culture primary hepatocytes for cDNA and cloning of these genes into expression vectors ( Drexel University USA). I have acquired advanced molecular biology techniques such as Northern blotting, Western blotting, Animal handling, cell culture techniques, Molecular cloning..etc. at Thomas Jefferson University (USA). During M.Sc project mentioned above I was able to establish and optimize a method for estimating Malondialdehyde(MDA) levels in the blood samples from hepatitis patients. I was involved in collecting blood samples from the patients, processing to separate blood components and used the serum fractions for the colorimetric estimation of the MDA levels. The principle behind this assay is to quantitate the extent of lipid peroxidation resulting from the oxidative damage occurring in the liver tissue and the byproduct circulating in the blood such as MDA. This study concluded an increased serum MDA levels in the patients suffering from liver disease. At the Drexel University, I was asked to handle a very technically challenging research assignment that required culturing of primary hepatocytes in a monolayer form and extraction of high quality RNA.
