If you are planning to settle abroad then you should give this exam . Also this exam is world wide applicable . Whether it is studying abroad or immigration or work purpose, this exam makes you eligible to fulfill your purpose in that country.

No, its not true as now a days almost all universities accept both TOEFL and IELTS.. So a students needs to look at the university website to decide on which is recommended
