IELTS Band Score

To achieve the perfect band score of 9, you can be quite a challenging task. Also, you have to ensure that you get a band score of 9 in each section that is listening, writing, reading and speaking. Here are some crucial tips and tricks shared that will help you do better.

IELTS Listening Test –

• Concentrate on the listening test as you only hear it once.
• Write down all your answers on to your question paper while the recording is playing.
• Make use of shorthand and abbreviations to make it simpler.
• Make sure that your handwriting is neat and legible, and you will be given only 10 minutes to transfer your answers on to the answer sheet paper.

IELTS Reading Test –

• If you don’t write anything, there is a 100% chance of scoring zero. So never leave an answer blank.
• If you write something, it might be a correct answer. Make a guess. Underline the key words in each paragraph before you answer the questions.

IELTS Writing (Task 1) –

• Never leave an answer blank.  If you write something, it might be a correct answer.
• Do not include lots of irrelevant details.

IELTS Writing (Task 2) –

• Write at least three paragraphs- introduction, body and conclusion.
• Make sure you plan and write notes.
• Connect the points in the essay, make sure they are relevant to your argument and explain them or support them with examples.
• Don’t write less than 250 words.
• Try using appropriate idioms and expressions in your writing.

IELTS Speaking Test –

Maintain eye contact with the Examiner. Do not to be nervous and be confident as possible. In the one-minute preparation time in part 2, think about what you are going to say and write down a few points. Try to speak about all the points on the card in section 2.

IELTS has a nine-band scale to identify levels of proficiency, half scores such as 7.5 are also possible. The score is valid for two years.

• You get an overall band score for your whole test. This score is the average of your IELTS scores.
• IELTS scores are required by many institutions and organisations to find out if your English is good enough for eligibility – in immigration, admissions, hiring, etc.
• If your intent of taking up IELTS test is for immigration, then a good IELTS score will undoubtedly depend upon the kind of visa you need such as work visa, a business visa for investor or a student visa amongst others.
• If your intent of taking up IELTS test is to pursue higher education, then a good IELTS score will depend on both the government and the institution as they have specific requirements of IELTS results that are acceptable.
