I have an overall band of 8 in IELTS. I never took any coaching. All institutes have a habit of cramming things, which never helps in the actual exam if you don't understand what you are doing. I will tell you what i personally did to get 8 bands. First and foremost, watch english movies and TV series but with the help of subtitles. I recommend Harry Potter movies. They have a british accent and literally help a lot. For reading, go through interesting novels. Start with the easy ones. There are some shops which rent novels. Talk to yourself in English and record your voice. Listen to those recordings and try to figure out your mistakes. I will always say that yes practice is important but analysing your weak areas is the most important thing. If you keep on practicing without understanding your weak points, you will never improve. read less

Hi, I would recommend you to take some professional help in initiating your preparations for the paper. The paper tests you on knowledge of techniques of english language that we ignore in our daily usage of it. SO best way would be to enroll yourself at some coaching programme.
