IELTS Listening and Reading Section tips

Listening Tips:

1. The recording will be played only once. You can't hear it a second time. 

2. Practice Multi tasking; Read the question/Listen the Tape script/Fill the answers.

3. Practice trasfering answers into an answer sheet at home .

4. Write your answers in your question booklet by using a pencil.

5. If you dont know one answer, give  a guess based on the full meaning of the question.

6. Practice writing answers in full capital letters, you can aviod many unwanted errors by doing this.

7. Very important, you must read the whole instructions before answering a question.

8. Spelling is very important in listening, While trasferring answers make sure that you write the answers with correct spelling, if there is difficulty in finding the spelling of a particular word, here is a tip, try to split the word into 2 parts based on the way that the word you pronounce. Practice this tip .

9. While listening enjoy the flow of the tape script, just enjoy what they speak. Be one of them.

10. Before starting each session try to understand whole meaning and idea of the session.

11. Learn the technique to avoid the unwanted area in listening.

Reading Tips:

1. Look at the headings of the passages and select the most interesting passage first, it wil help you to relax some extent.

2. Spend 17 minutes for the passage, you can save some time here for the toughest passage.

3. Read the instructions before starting the passage.

4. Start the First two passages by understading the main idea, underline the main content, and move on with the first set of questions.

5. Look for the answers in the first two paragraphs. 

6. Apply the key words from the question and look for the answers, the main idea what you underlined earlier wil help you to locate your answer easily.

7. If you cant find one answer leave it there and move on. Once you finished with first set of questions move on with next questions. 

 

SPEAKING TIPS:

 

1. Be very smart infront of the Examiner.

2. Try to be very confident and relaxed in the Part 0 (The time you knock the door until the examiner starts the real exam)

3 . Have a smile on your face and greet  your examiner well.Do not think that all the examiners are very friendly .

4. Use your shoulders and hands while you answering ,Dont sit like a statue.

5 .Dont always go for the safe side while answering ,Pick the negative side and talk well.

6. Do not think that the Examiner knows evrything.

7. Use many vocabularies , if you dont know how to use the latest vocabulary in a  good sentence please avoid it  , dont invite unnecessary errors.

8. Give your anwers first and if needed give explanations.

9. Maintain two minitue talk in Cue Card ,Answering questions chronologically is very important.

10. Use your imagination while you answering .Better dont make stories.

11.Give answers for each questions.
