It depends on your requirement. Most American universities accept TOEFL. But across the world, many universities accept TOEFL as well as IELTS. You can decide which exam to take based on your comfort level after finding out the differences in these exams.

Tofel is mainly for Teaching and Ielts is for Imigration. If you are Planning to become educator. Tofel is fair enough. But instead if you are looking to migrate, you need ielts.
