Two blocks of masses m1, m2 are connected by light spring on a smooth horizontal surface. The two masses are pulled apart and then released. Prove that the ratio of their acceleration is inversely proportional to their masses.

We know the spring will have same tension throughout. So after releasing, restoring force will also be the same. Now F=ma So, m1a1=m2a2 So, m1/m2=a2/a1 So acceleration is inversely proportional to mass.
