roasting is a process in metallurgy. when a sulfide ore is heated in air by roasting process may convert to a free meta l oxide or to a free metal. like example:- roasting ZnS may yeild Zno and roasting HgS may yeild free Hg metal.

In chemistry, Roasting is the process in which an ore is heated in the presence of oxygen usually sulphide minerals. For example - Have u seen people heating peanuts or roasting peanuts? They usually take the peanuts in a vessel and heat it but the they keep they lid of the vessel open so that there is air. As u know , major portion of air is made up of nitrogen or oxygen. So, in short v r roasting the peanut. In place of peanuts if v put ore or sulphide minerals and apply the above process, we will be doing a process called roasting.
