I was a teacher in an International school in which I had handled International Baccalaureate syllabus for students. Since I was placed there directly after my Masters in English Literature I wanted to continue my studies and hence joined Christ University Bangalore for Mphil in English studies. Whilst pursuing my pre- doctoral degree in Christ I had taught 2 international students from Afghanistan and Thailand (who were the graduate students in my college) English to improve their language communication.My achievement would be that they have received a good orientation on how to improve themselves in a new language. Often there is a mis- conception among st people that language studies can be taught or studied like physics or chemistry. This as I mentioned before is a blasphemy. Language can be improved by its consistent usage. The student has to be exposed to the foreign language to an extend that they inherently comprehends its usage and structure. This is how an infant learns even its mother tongue. The baby imitates and inherently learns the words and usages of its parents. I believe in making my students comfortable with me and my teaching methods before we plunge into the leaning experiences. Since I believe that if the student keeps on holding onto their apprehensions that they would make a mistake while speaking they would not be able to grasp a new language. Removing this apprehension or fear of creating a mistake can be only possible if the student trusts a teacher. I also intent to give them some home tasks just to keep both of us updated regarding the progress of learning.
