Why are the sounds generated by a tabla and sitar different?

Both instruments are quite different from each other. On Sitar, sounds are produced by striking out strings along with pressing the same. When we play Tabla, sounds are produced when by striking fingers and hand on it.

Yes very much. It would sound better if you play with a bass tabla rather than high piched tabla...
