Vowel is a, e, i, o, u and consonant is left of the alphabet that is b, c, d, f vowels is used to make sound

Previous Teaching in India, HP & TN and obviously native UK British.

AEIOU (these are the vowel's) and 99% of words at least a vowel, every other letter is consonants. The odd word may use a Y instead, and if your here Welsh words in spoken everyday conversation that has a CWM - pronounced koom which is different again but these are micro exceptions to the rule.
