A question word is a function word used to ask a question, such as what, when, where, who, whom, why, and how. They are sometimes called wh-words, because in English most of them start with "wh". They may be used in both direct questions and in indirect questions.

I agree with the answers provided by Ishita and Debraj. Would like to add examples however. What, why, where, when, who and how. Though How does not start with letters 'wt' but does contain w and h. The same are also called as Interrogative words. Happy learning!
