There are five English vowels : a,e,i,o,u. One of the most common rules with vowels is that when you are using an article before a word starting with an vowel ( for example - Education), then we use 'an' article before the word. Hope this helps.

a, e, i, o and u are vowels in English. Vowels are different than consonants because of phonetics. Whenever you pronounce a vowel, you can still pass air from your mouth, but this is not a case with the consonants, hence they are different. To know more you can refer phonetics and vowels.

So Shishir, As you would know out of the 26 letters in the English language, five, namely a,e,i, o, and u are called vowels. These five letters are the back bone of all English word pronunciations. It would be close to impossible to pronounce any word without the presence of vowels in them. Just a handful of actual words in the English language can be formed without vowels and a majority of them would have a 'y' instead of one of the vowels. There is a lot more to vowels but for now I do hope this helps! Cheers! read less
