I meet many people everyday who mispronounce commonly used words and when corrected don't even bother to improve. Well to get good pronunciation skills only speaking practice is not sufficient. You need to be corrected where ever you go wrong.Reading newspaper or watching English channels alone will not help you in this regard. A mentor or trainer is much needed in this area. I agree with what Mr Vinaykumar advised. However, it is not necessary to learn the IPA which is a long process. Pronunciation is best learned through listening. Invest in Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary that comes with a CD. Download this on your PC. Everytime you come across a word you don't...

I agree with what Mr Vinaykumar advised. However, it is not necessary to learn the IPA which is a long process. Pronunciation is best learned through listening. Invest in Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary that comes with a CD. Download this on your PC. Everytime you come across a word you don't know how to pronounce, go to the dictionary, it has the English, American and IPA pronunciation audio. Listen, repeat, repeat, repeat to remember and voil�  you'll improve in no time. Just be serious about learning. I also have a book called Understanding English Pronunciation plus audio. Try to make a penpal buddy from USA or UK and practice speaking to them on a frequent basis. I would also suggest listening to music that's it English, and challenging yourself to match them. Also, break down your words in syllables. Sometimes it helps to space words out.
