The common mistake - Can & Able

Mazher Hussain S
01/02/2017 0 0

I would like to draw the attention of students, who are aiming to improve their Spoken English skills, towards a very common mistake that most people do while speaking English. The usage of Can & Able together in a statement/sentence.

Few examples:

1. I can able to do this.

2. I can't able to do this.

3. Can you able to do this?

This is completely wrong. We are not supposed to use both Can & Able together in a statement/sentence as Can & Able mean the same. Two words of the same meaning should never be used in a single statement/sentence.

The correct way of saying this is:

1. I can do this (or) I am able to do this.

2. I can't do this (or) I am unable to do this.

3. Can you do this? (or) Are you able to do this?

Hope this helps.

Thank you!
