Oracle Database Training Expert on UrbanPro.com Introduction As a seasoned Oracle Database tutor specializing in online coaching, I frequently encounter questions about the distinctions between Oracle 11g and 12c databases. Let's delve into the key differences to provide a comprehensive understanding. Oracle 11g Database 1. Architecture and Features Architecture: 11g follows the client-server architecture. Features: Notable features include Data Guard, Real Application Testing, and Advanced Compression. 2. Multitenant Option Absence: Oracle 11g does not have a multitenant architecture. Isolation: Each database operates independently. 3. Security Enhancements Role Separation: Limited separation of duties. Unified Auditing: Basic auditing features. 4. Editions Options: Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition, and Express Edition. Oracle 12c Database 1. Architecture and Features Architecture: Introduces a multitenant architecture with a container database (CDB) and pluggable databases (PDBs). Features: Emphasizes in-memory processing, Database as a Service (DBaaS), and improved security features. 2. Multitenant Option Presence: 12c introduces a multitenant architecture. Isolation: PDBs share the same infrastructure but are isolated from each other. 3. Security Enhancements Role Separation: Enhanced role separation and privileged user controls. Unified Auditing: Advanced unified auditing capabilities. 4. Editions Options: Standard Edition 2, Enterprise Edition, and Express Edition. Key Takeaways In summary, the shift from Oracle 11g to 12c signifies a significant evolution in database architecture, features, and security. The introduction of the multitenant option in Oracle 12c allows for more efficient resource utilization and easier management of multiple databases within a single container.
