No, but it can certainly feel that way. An acoustic guitar's strings are under about 55% more tension than an electric with the same gauge strings which means between 55 and 65 pounds more pressure. The fingertips of the chording hand inevitably feel that difference.

Electric guitar strings are generally softer than acoustic guitar strings. This is primarily due to their construction and the gauges (thickness) typically used: 1. **String Gauge**: Electric guitars usually use lighter gauge strings (e.g., .009 to .042 inches) compared to acoustic guitars (e.g., .012 to .054 inches). Thinner strings require less tension to reach the same pitch, making them easier to press down. 2. **Core and Wrap Material**: Electric guitar strings are often made with a steel core and nickel or nickel-plated steel wrap, which tends to feel softer and more pliable than the bronze or phosphor bronze wraps commonly used for acoustic guitar strings. 3. **Tension**: Due to the lighter gauges and different construction materials, electric guitar strings exert less tension on the fingers when playing, contributing to a softer feel. Overall, these factors make electric guitar strings easier on the fingers compared to acoustic guitar strings. read less

Strings. Classic guitars generally use Nylon strings, where as the acoustic and electric guitar use the steel strings. The nylon strings are thicker and have a mellow and rounded sound. The strings of the electric guitar are much softer than the acoustic guitar and can be easily pressed.
