Well, it can be same as that of a relationship for many.
However, I have seen people get bored of playing and give up due to many reasons
1)The fingers pain
2)the hand pains
3)no willingness to practice.
Just touch your instrument once a day. May be for 10 mins may be for 50mins.
You will start liking it.

Well totally.
The cool part is, you can reaper or any other kind of software and find a way to connect your acoustic guitar to a computer and have fun.
However, this connection requires something called an impedance match. This should not really be a problem as computer microphone jack is high impedance and so are guitar pickups.
To be safe buy a cheap usb sound card (under a few hundred rupees ) and try on it first.

Well, the simple answer is first get an acoustic guitar. This helps build finger power and flexability.
Electric guitars are comparatively easier to play but are very sensitive. They are connected to a guitar amplifier which would really highlight your mistakes really well.
Also, electric guitars will incur more cost towards purchase of guitar amplifier etc.
So best is to first develop skill set and finger power. Then get an electric guitar to highlight the playing mistakes as well as playing with comfort.
