Ok if one is using Excel, you might focus on Excel + Microsoft SQL Server Express instead of VBA + Access. Both Access and AQL Server are databases, but Access has an engine to develop forms and reports if it was for Excel that may be preferred front end instead of Access. To focus on the core of Excel VBA without having lots of chapters on fewer core topics, a book called "Excel 2003 Power programming" would be beneficial. After this, to get an excellent overview of best practices, Bullen, Bovey and Green's "Professional Excel Development" will be like the bible. So, after this, you will have a framework to dive either into programming for particular applications or particular features like programming charts. Hope this helps read less
