Format > Cells > Font > check Superscript then type '2' which will appear as superscript Format > Cells > Font > uncheck Superscript

If you want to type 5 Square ( 5^2) in a cell. Type '52 in the cell -> Select the letter 2 alone -> Format -> Cells -> Fonts -> click on the check box Superscript.
