After the British regime,it was necessary to make a supreme law for lay down the frameworks which difines fundamental political principles, establishes the structure, procedures, powers and duties of government institutions and sets out fundamental rights. Preparation of Indian Constitution had been since 1934, but A Drafting Committee was constituted on August 29, 1947, with Dr. B. R. Ambedkar as Chairman to prepare a Draft Constitution. This committee finally finished their work on November 26, 1949. The date is therefore known as Constitution or National Law Day. But the main purpose was to replace the Indian Independence act 1947.which is an act of the Parliament of United kingdom.

The Constituent Assembly was the body of elected representatives of the people of India. Elections for the Constituent Assembly were held in July 1946 and its first meeting was convened in December 1946. On Partition, the Constituent Assembly was also divided into two parts called as the Constituent Assembly of India and the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan. The Constituent Assembly of India chaired by Dr. B.R Amedkar, that drafted the Indian Constitution had 299 members. The Constituent Assembly of India had adopted the Constitution on 26 November 1949, but it came into effect on 26 January 1950
